For me, the 1970s are the golden age of bad trend: The time forgotten by good taste. Wanting back at photographs and music movies from the seventies, two phrases come to my thoughts: Outrageously awful. Did men actually put on these tacky platform shoes on an everyday basis or even simply to go Disco dancing?
I suppose ladies’s trend was not too bad. Except for the high maintenance airbrushed hairstyles, if vogue did not make justice to the feminine silhouette, a minimum of it did not ridicule it the best way it did with males: The flared trousers, the shirts, but most insulting of all, the infamous platform shoes. Within the early 1970s platform sneakers started with a quite slim sole which moved from 褰?inch as much as about four inches on the peak of recognition. By the mid-seventies, the most peculiar individuals have been carrying two inch deep platforms with no second thought.
I Grew Up With The 70s Music
I grew up with the 70s music. I nonetheless remember my father dressed like John Travolta at all times with a comb in his pocket to tidy up his hair fashion, and moustache. My mom along with her colourful dresses and Farrah Fawcett brushed hairstyle, all the time had the music on, singing and dancing to the latest hits. After all, the fashion craze also prolonged to me and i can see plenty of photos of myself sporting patchwork dresses and even sequined clothes and airbrushed wigs even before I was 5! Now, that’s what some individuals would name youngster abuse!

Saturday Night Fever Purchase Now Disco Vogue
Within the 1970s disco dance clubs created a place for a brand new form of clothing referred to as disco wear which was primarily based on stretch clothes and mild reflecting fabrics that shone underneath disco lighting. Gold lame, leopard pores and skin and stretch jumpsuits together with white clothes that glowed in Extremely Violet lights had been all the rage for the Discos. Satin jackets that reflected the light and a gold medallion exhibiting on a tanned or bushy chest and the open neck shirt with the collar turned up were de rigueur for men. Sizzling pants and Spandex tops. Shiny clinging Lycra stretch disco pants in scorching strident shiny colours with stretch sequin bandeau tops were typically adaptations of professional trendy dance wear that discovered itself making an impression in discos as disco dancing turned serious.

Saturday Evening Fever
Films like Saturday Night time Fever (1977) popularised the image of John Travolta dancing to the Bee Gees in his crisp white disco suit, glittering gold chains, and furry chest.
In real life, the action took please in venues like the hedonistic Studio fifty four: The place to be seen.
Most fashions do a come again. We have now already seen the revival of many developments but I sincerely hope that this time not less than we give a miss to reviving the worst of the seventies vogue!

We typically nonetheless get to see the shades of 70’s & eighty’s in our current hollywood motion pictures. I personally loved the music of that period.

I was afraid after i first learn your title that you cherished the seventies fashions. I could not stand them. Even dwelling in that period, killed me. I hated the huge legs of my pants that my mom had for college clothes. I assumed the way my older sisters dressed was horrible. The unhappy half is that so much is coming back. Oh, my.

It’s laborious to pin just one fashion to the 70’s. Within the South, we had hippie and disco, but we had preppy, too. Of course, down right here, preppy never really goes away. It simply waxes and wanes.
Not every part about 70’s vogue was dangerous — just the bridesmaid’s dresses! When you were born too late to have been a bridesmaid anywhere from 1973 to 1982, be thankful. Can you say, “Polyester”? Oh, and guys’ prom tuxes were fairly bad, too.
I need to agree with whoever said that the eighty’s didn’t improve things a lot.
Aren’t we glad trend has moved on. 🙂
Lewgard: thanks for passing by and leaving a remark.
Rik: I loved your hub on “Weird Sci Fi Glamour” where bad taste meets science fiction 🙂
pjdscott: keep looking in that loft, you might still find a pair of flares… however, wait… certainly you don’t need to make use of them again?
Yomraholmes: please don’t… don’t… unless you’re going to glassvisage’s “Sony and Cher occasion”

I’m a “youngster of the 70’s” and have a lot of nice recollections. Trying again, things positive had been UGLY!! The other day, I used to be watching a rerun of Sanford and Son and cracked-up at the style. Saturday Evening Reside is my favourite movie.

Some features of the 70’s trend I really like even in the present day. Pants that fit snug to the knee and a “gentle” flare for my part still look great. The hair types until appeal to me and I’ve my hairdresser skilled to by no means let the top of my ear present….LOL.
Hugs to you my friend! Thanks!

I grew up within the 50s and 60s. By the point the 70s roolled around, I was on my technique to adulthood and navy service.. The uniforms did not change within the 70s but the music did.

This is an superior hub! Although I still like a lot of the music from the 70’s, I recall that the clothes was not only shocking to look at – it was some of essentially the most uncomfortable, annoying stuff to put on. This hub is a good reminder of what To not put on.
Lionel Blair’s “flares” (which is cockney rhyming slang) and platform footwear are the final fashion kinds that will come back around again…for guys anyway!..

As far as I’m concerned the 70’s did seal the changes that had been imminent and never simply in style. The completely straight-laced ‘Leave it to Beaver’ dad and mom were slowly being replaced by the primary movement of “”hippy-ish”” grownups. My dad and mom were not amongst them but by 1973 when I was married we variety off caught the ‘bug. My bell bottoms had been by no means belly enough, platforms by no means high enough…my furlined suede vest nonetheless hangs in one of the closets. The music might be the factor that endures probably the most. What I actually hate is the 70’s retro furniture yuk.
Princessa an excellent enjoyable and reminiscence crammed hub

A few of the style and the hairdos have been more engaging within the 70’s than the eighty’s. I like to put on flared pants and peasant tops from time to time. Also, the music of the seventies is my favorite.

Yeah among the type had to come back from, God solely is aware of but, I grew up in the 70’s with stick straight hair to my waste…It was more hippie turning preppy for me. Platform sneakers had been the worst. These awful lengthy sideburns too! Yuk! Yuk!

As they say, each factor goes in cycles. In the 90s my then teenage daughter swore she would by no means, completely by no means ever put on bell bottoms – they give the impression of being pretty cute on her now.
And, oh horror … the large mens tie with a very big knot is making a come back which just goes to point out that there actually isn’t any depth to which fashion can not sink, and sink again.

This is totally funny! Identical to when we were children and used to gown up within the 50’s attire, my youngsters at the moment are dressing up and partying in 70’s and 80’s type. I must be getting actually previous! Thank goodness disco solely lasted a short whereas! lol Great Hub.

Grew up within the late 70s, however I really like the music. To me, the 60s and 70s rock music is the very best. Private opinion of course. As for the fashion, the 80s topped it for ghastliness; one other opinion in fact. (Puffy shirts and argyle socks) Yuck!

I was a teenager in the 70s and, to be honest, no one dressed that manner besides the disco culture and the folks on Television. The heavy metallic explosion was also occurring at that very same time: Ozzy, Alice Cooper, and so on, and the hippie culture was still going very strong. Granted, a number of the vogue was unescapable, however the typical younger adult regarded nothing just like the the media portrays them. Identical to all people within the 60s Women’s Desgin Sugar Skull Vision Blue Eyes Red Lips Full Moon Short Sleeve T Shirts weren’t hippies. Simply “the children,” and everybody else hated them.
