Andrew Bawidamann – If you’ve got visited my ‘hyperlinks’ web page, you might have noticed the banner for Bawidamann.com that is been there since 2004. I am a long-time fan of Andrew Bawidamann’s military pin-up lady art, which is paying homage to the basic WWII aircraft nose art pin-up lady. Since childhood, Andrew has had a love for the art type that’s rooted in navy and American historical past.
Andrew creates his curvaceous navy pinup ladies with each fashionable and basic themes, with a variety of consideration to technical accuracy and detail in the tools. This is among the issues that struck me once i first saw them. This guy is aware of his weapons. It is not shocking that he’s an avid gear man and shooter. His graphics are both colourful and stylish, and usually are not restricted to military themes; he additionally does old skool pinups with various themes starting from Space Travel to Pirates.
Andrew makes a living from his artwork, and sells posters and T-shirts on his site. I’ve worn a variety of his pin-up girl shirts for the previous few years, and they at all times draw interest and compliments. They’re distinctive as they’re drawn utilizing fashionable strategies and themes but are instantly recognizable as an homage to a nostalgic fashion. He will get his inspiration from many sources; typically from requests from guys in the navy. Some of his newest pinup ladies have been completed at the particular request of soldiers, showing his dedication to the morale of our troops.
Now, the colourful pin-ups aren’t the only type that Andrew does. He has a whole lot of different artwork that he’ll sometimes print limited runs for artwork shows, conventions and so forth. One of these is the ‘Steel Demise’ T-shirt proven beneath; a one-color design of a skull, ‘Afrika Korps’ -type palm tree and M240 machine gun. Ever since I wore that shirt as part of a TAD Gear Praetorian Hoodie assessment, I’ve had inquiries about it. This prompted Andrew to start providing them on his site, along with another single-colour military designs.
How about an MM T-shirt collaboration? – Andrew, being a shooter and one who appreciates the newest and best in gear and clothing has been a frequent customer to my site for years and it is helped him spend extra money that he ought to. So, throughout one in all our e-mail banters, he asked me if I would be considering collaborating on a MilitaryMorons t-shirt. My answer was a resounding ‘Sure’. It was a no-brainer for me; when one of the best army pin-up/graphic design artists in the country offers to customized design a shirt specially for you, you do not go that opportunity up!
Impulsively, the venture out of the blue jumped to the entrance burner and the fire was lit! I appreciated the Steel Death T-shirt design a lot that I needed something alongside those strains – a single color graphic. Also, I did not need big ‘MilitaryMorons. We both agreed on a more delicate method, and have a cool wanting design first, that anyone would need to put on whether or not it was associated to my website or not. Principally, it’s for the ‘militarymoron’ in everyone.
The Design – So began the strategy of coming up with a design. I had some concept of what I wished to include into the design: it had to have guns, and that i wished to follow the skull with horns theme, which I’ve on my EMDOM/MM patch seen on my hat and shoulder below. Plus, as a joke, I generally wear horns on my listening to protection.
Andrew truly had fairly a few graphic elements that he had already executed in the past, and put collectively some ideas, piecing together completely different components. I’d should say that we did not have to return and forth too many instances – the samples that Andrew put together all appeared adequate for a T-shirt. It was only a matter of narrowing down the choice of parts in the design, then refining it. The principle graphic depicts a horned skull in entrance of a spear head (signifying the ‘tip of the spear’) shaped just like the Ace of Spades (the ‘demise card’ in popular delusion and folklore). The tapered cylinder with ribs is the a part of the spear head which attaches it to the end of the shaft. Beneath the spear head are crossed Mk48 Mod 0 7.62x51mm machine guns just like the one I’m holding within the photo under. A belt of ammo is draped over the buttstocks. Andrew positioned the ‘MM’ in stylized gothic font above the ammo belt.
Andrew prompt we put a small rear graphic on the again of the left shoulder, for a more unusual place (as an alternative of centered). Since I appreciated the Afrika Korps palm tree and skull graphic, he used the MM skull from the entrance and included it into the palm tree and added the gothic ‘MM’. The Steel Loss of life T-shirt graphic had a distressed look which I appreciated, so Andrew distressed the MM graphic as properly. The ultimate design and precise T-shirt is proven under, and I could not be extra happy with the way it came out.
MilitaryMorons T-shirt – Andrew printed his Steel Loss of life design on Soffe Lightweight Navy T-shirts, which has a more ‘tailored/athletic’ match (at the very least on me). I also favored the snug, lighter weight materials. We chose the identical Soffe T-shirt for the MM Design. It’s 50/50 Cotton/Poly and made within the USA. For now, it is solely out there in OD Green with a Sand colored print. I’m wearing a measurement Medium in the photographs below.
Vital! For those who want a looser match, order one dimension up – these are a slim/snug fit.
Thanks to Andrew Bawidamann for doing such superior work on this design – it is one badass-looking piece of navy artwork!
Desert Sand MM Shirt
three/24/09 – In response to requests for a Sand version of the MM Shirt from Military personnel who can’t put on OD Inexperienced T-shirts with their ACU uniform, Andrew re-worked the image to make it suitable for printing on a mild colored tee (the skull has to be reversed so that what was gentle on the green t-shirt is now darkish). Again, Andrew did an awesome job, additionally adding more shading on the spear shaft and different areas.
The Sand MM T-shirt is printed on a Sand Soffe Lightweight Army shirt with darkish brown distressed graphic.
Coyote and Black MM Shirts
1/6/10 – Andrew has accomplished a run of Coyote and Black MM shirts. Both Coyote and Black shirts have the Sand MM print. Sadly, no SM or Med sized Coyote shirts had been available on the time of printing, so those must be printed once they’re accessible from Soffe. Necessary! Don’t order the SM or Med in Coyote, despite the fact that they’re options in the drop-down menu on his site.
